We are actively developing large capital projects for heat, CO2, and hydrogen. For the hydrogen economy we are connecting supply and demand with infrastructure projects. In a future where more and more energy is produced by the sun and wind, large-scale underground storage of hydrogen is essential to connect energy supply and demand over time. For one of the new storage opportunities in Germany, we are now looking for a Location: Hannover / Etzel or Groningen, where partial remote work is possible in consultation. Hours per week: 40
Aufgaben:
  • As Project Director Business Development (m/w/d), you will be in a unique position to develop one of our large capital projects (hydrogen storage in Etzel, Germany). Developing hydrogen storage in Germany is a technically complex trajectory in a cross-border context, utilizing new innovative solutions. Multiple parties will be involved at a strategic level during development, making the stakes high. Besides the innovative nature, the project must be executed in a turbulent environment; the developing hydrogen market. During execution, there is a high financial and/or reputational risk.
  • You will work in a team that is responsible for developing hydrogen storage projects in the Netherlands and Germany. For example, in the Netherlands, we are developing the HyStock project. This project involves the development of the first large hydrogen storage in the Netherlands and is one of Gasunie's strategic hydrogen projects. Gasunie is also active in Germany, working on the H2-Cast and SpHyGER projects. The location of these projects (Etzel) where you will be responsible for, is strategically located with good connections to the Dutch and German hydrogen markets. Integrating this storage location with the network and various import locations is essential in this context.
  • Your task is to structure, develop, and ultimately bring this complex, cross-border large capital project (>500 million) to the Final Investment Decision (FID). You will do this together with a multidisciplinary project team (growing towards ~20 FTE) involved from multiple (professional) disciplines (technical, economic, commercial, operational, and political). In the team, you will ensure optimal cooperation between both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the desired successes.
  • In short, a very challenging and dynamic role in which you actively contribute to accelerating the energy transition. You understand that in this role, the various facets of the technical, economic, commercial, operational, and political challenges of the project are your responsibilities.
Qualifikationen:
  • You have at least a completed higher professional education degree, preferably in a technical, economic, or business administration direction.
  • You have at least 10 years of experience as the final responsible person for developing large capital projects (> 500 million) in the energy sector or a related sector.
  • You have demonstrable and recent experience with project management in a business development environment; experience with project development in Germany is a plus.
  • You are able to interpret technical specifications and economic analyses and translate them into a plan to robustly come to a solution.
  • Preferably you are a native German speaker and proficient in English, Also good with Dutch is a plus.
  • You have experience in directing, motivating, and adjusting large multidisciplinary teams (>20 FTE) in a matrix structure.
  • You have extensive experience in preparing business cases and project plans.
  • As a person, you are a strong leader who can motivate and guide multidisciplinary teams. You have experience with opportunity development and reporting to steering committees and management teams. You possess strong analytical skills to identify complex problems and formulate effective solutions. You have a proactive attitude in identifying opportunities and risks within projects. Additionally, you are willing to contribute to a culture of collaboration and integration within the hydrogen project value chain. As a team player, you can successfully operate within a complex environment with long lead times and know how to achieve results. You are resilient and know how to engage your stakeholders. You love challenges and handle setbacks well. You are positive and feel at home within the dynamics of a project organization.
