Professorship of Historical Education and Public History
Aktualität: 03.12.2021

03.12.2021, Universität Passau
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Passau invites applications for the tenured civil-service post of:

Professorship of Historical Education and Public History
(pay grade W2)

This post is available to start immediately.

Ihre Aufgaben

You will represent the fields of historical education and public history in research and teaching, placing a focus on education-oriented historical research. You will offer history didactics courses for the teacher education programmes as well as courses on public history in education-related degree programmes and in all degree programmes in which history forms part of the curriculum. You should be able to demonstrate past, nationally and internationally visible research activities in the above areas, which you will be expected to continue developing as the postholder. As an expert in subject-specific teaching and learning research, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between the educational and historical sciences. Active participation in interdisciplinary research projects is, therefore, expected, as is the willingness to participate in the Teacher Education Centre (ZLF) as well as in projects involving multiple academic subjects (such as SKILL.de) to advance the future development of teacher education. Research interests in the area of digital historical teaching and learning or in the digitalisation of public history would be desirable. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of externally (third-party) funded projects would be desirable.

Ihre Qualifikation

Research and teaching at the University of Passau are focused on the themes of Digitalisation, Networked Society and (Internet) Cultures; Europe and Global Transformation; and Migration, Sustainable Development and Just Order. As a forward-looking, internationally visible and attractive university for Europe, the University of Passau seeks to make a significant contribution towards solving Europe's current and future challenges. Members of all faculties are in the process of establishing a unique, internationally-orientated forum for ground-breaking interdisciplinary research on one of the greatest challenges of our time: the societal implications of digitalisation. A willingness to cooperate on this interdisciplinary and cross-faculty project is expected of all future colleagues.

Ihre Vorteile

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is characterised by a wide range of geographical, thematic, methodological and academic subjects, as represented by its chairs and professorships. It underlines the regional specificities of inter- and transdisciplinary research and teaching as well as the inclusion of current social topics in times of transformation, without losing sight of fundamental long-term research.

The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research. He or she will, furthermore, possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position; the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have a teaching qualification and a minimum of three years' experience teaching history at a school or comparable education institution (Art. 7(1) sentence 1 BayHSchG). In accordance with Art. 10(3) sentence 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Employment Act (BayHSchPG), candidates must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment.
The University of Passau actively promotes equal opportunities for all genders as well as diversity in the workforce; therefore, applications are welcome from all candidates who fulfil the requisite qualifications, without regard to gender, cultural or social background, religion, world view, disability or sexual identity. As the University wishes to raise the proportion of women in research and teaching, female academics are expressly encouraged to apply. This position is suitable for people with disabilities; registered disabled persons are given preference over non-disabled applicants who do not otherwise have statutory preferential status if their overall personal aptitudes, skills and qualifications are equal.
